The program in short

Our Danish escapade commences in Copenhagen, where you will stay in a centrally located hotel.  We recommend Andersen Boutique Hotel next to the central station. (The pre night/post night in Copenhagen is NOT included).

DAY 1

Morning

We head out of Copenhagen by the motorway towards the island of Fyn and Jylland. Before leaving Sjælland we make a stop at the Viking fortress Trelleborg; one of several fortifications around Denmark built by one of the first kings of Denmark. Then we cross the 23 km long bridge to the Island of Fyn, where we head for Odense. The town where the famous, Danish fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen was born.

We visit the museum in the house where he was raised before having a lunch of Danish Open Faced Sandwiches at an old inn in central Odense.

Afternoon

In the afternoon we continue west to Brenderup, where we make a stop at a little design workshop making mobiles sold all over the world.

We then drive on to the Hindsgavl Castle, where we stop for dinner and overnight.

Evening

Before dinner you’ll have ample time for a stroll in the big park surrounding the castle and overlooking Lillebælt – the strait between Fyn and Jylland and praised in the Danish national hymn.

DAY 2

Morning

The next day we leave Hindsgavl after breakfast and cross the bridge over Lillebælt to Jylland, where we we continue to a modern land art installation by the world famous Danish sculptor Robert Jacobsen, who has created 18 huge sculptures in the old gravel pit Tørskind Grusgrav.

Around noon we arrive in the oldest town in Denmark, Ribe, dating back to year 700 AD. At first a summer trading market which developed into a royal town, where the first church in Denmark was established app. 850 AD. Up to the middle of the 1800’s one of the most important towns in Denmark. We make a guided walk around the old town center including the cathedral, before we enjoy our lunch at an old restaurant at the old pier.

After lunch we take a time trip to the Viking Age – or so it may seem, when we visit Ribe VikingeCenter. Here you find a reconstructed Viking village with Viking houses, animals and people dressed as Vikings. Here you will experience how life really was 1.000 years ago here in Denmark.

Afternoon & evening

In the late afternoon we drive north to a typical Danish countryside inn for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3

Morning

On the last day we drive across Jylland to the second biggest town of Denmark, the town of Aarhus. We will visit The Old Town Museum, which is an open air museum showing a medieval town in Denmark. We will have lunch in one of the restaurants in the old town.

Afternoon

Mid afternoon we drive to Aarhus harbour to catch the ferry back to Sjælland driving back to Copenhagen and arriving in time for dinner (not included).

PS: We will be happy to make your hotel bookings before and after the tour in Copenhagen – and your transfers to/from airport as well as other services. After all we do know Copenhagen very well.
